The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services (DADS) has set forth education requirements for Managers of Assisted Living Facilities in the Licensing Standards of Assisted Living Facilities Handbook. Section 92.41 of the Handbook states that after August 1, 2000, a manager must have completed at least one educational course on the management of assisted living facilities which includes information on the assisted living standards; resident characteristics (including dementia); resident assessment and skills working with residents; basic principles of management; food and nutrition services; federal laws, with emphasis on the American’s with Disabilities Act’s accessibility requirements; community resources; ethics; and financial management. And that this course must be 24 hours in length. CHA Seminars has developed the Assisted Living Managers Training Course to meet those requirements.
Day 1 ~ Human Resources General Overview
Learn how to manage your employees – legally. In this course you will learn (1) how to comply with the ADA requirements during the hiring process, (2) the definition of at-will employment and the four key exceptions, (3) how company policies are essential tools for preventing trouble in the workplace, (4) a three-step process in handling workplace issues, (5) how to take action in becoming more assertive, (6) understand the discrimination laws and how to avoid illegal discrimination, (7) the elements of an effective harassment policy, (8) the FLSA requirements for pay requirements, documenting hours and wages of employees, (9) the coverage and conditions under the FMLA for employees and employers, (10) the constitutional protections for free speech in the workplace, (11) how to accommodate religious beliefs, (11) how to identify substance abuse by employees and the regulations for drug testing, (12) the three principles of keeping interviews within legal boundaries (13) the restrictions involved in termination of an employee, (14) how to prevent company lawsuits and (15) the top ten issues when interacting with employees and how to stay on the right side of the law.
Day 2 ~ Resident Characteristics and Assessments & Management Concepts for LTC Professionals
This course provides a common sense, practical approach to budget preparation and financial statements. This course also defines 'Diversity Effectiveness' and gives steps to 'Diversity Effectiveness' and how they can be applied. Learn and understand the characteristics of residents in long-term care facilities and how to assess those characteristics. These characteristics include Alzheimer’s, anxiety, arthritis, cholesterol, congestive heart failure, cold and flu, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, dementia diabetes, disabilities, heart disease, high blood pressure, incontinence, osteoporosis, Parkinson’s, and stroke. You will also gain a basic understanding of the financial concepts, community resources and customer service that are necessary managing the operations of a long-term care facility.
Day 3 ~ Texas Licensing Standards for Assisted Living Facilities Handbook
Review the Standards that apply to the day-to-day operations of an assisted living facility. This fast-paced video presentation will review the material found in the Licensing Standards for Assisted Living Facilities Handbook. This course must be taken within the first 90-days of being employed as an Assisted Living Manager.
